Dino-rific

What a busy week we had learning all about dinosaurs! We of course made paper mache dinosaur eggs, which turned out great! A few vocabulary words we talked about were carnivore, herbivore, omnivore, fossil and paleontologist. We talked about many different types of dinosaurs, how they are found in the ground and then taken to museums to be reassembled for us to look at, and what may have happened to the dinosaurs. We learned a few new dino songs, but focused on a song about the "Stegosaurus". See if your kids can sing it to you. It starts like this... "My name is Stegosaurus, I'm a funny looking dinosaur."

We talked about fossils and even made our own to take home. We talked about the skeleton of dinosaurs and how we all have a skeleton inside, just like they did. We painted a Stegosaurs and then glued his bones on. We also did one of our first cutting activities and I was pleased with how well most of the kids did handling scissors. The kids also got to do some dinosaur stamping and did a great job making a collage of different types of dinosaurs.

We have been going through our Zoo phonics letter names and sounds and have learned the letters A-L. The kids are doing great remembering their letter sounds and are getting better at identifying the names as well. Quiz them on their sounds at home and see if they can tell you the animal that goes along with each letter and what action goes along with it as well.

Dino week was a busy one-but we all had fun! Thanks again to the moms who volunteered to come and help us with our eggs. I appreciate you being willing to get down and dirty for the kids!!

All Parker has talked about for a week is dinosaurs. He loves watching "The Land Before Time," because "those are the dinosaurs he learned about in preschool!" Again, thank you, Jill! We love you!

Jill, I found your blog via Leanne and then found this one, I hope you don't mind. This is Trina Lowder, we went to high school together. I just started my own preschool this year as well. From your pics, you have done an amazing job! I am very curious about the zoo phonics, I have never heard about them. I have a ton of questions if you are available to answer any of them. I am looking for some great web sites to get cute ideas from. There are very few in home preschools here, so not a lot of people to bounce ideas off of. If you have a free minute email me at trinpeterson92@yahoo.com
Thanks so much. And what a cute school!

Hi Jill! Gordon absolutely loves going to school! I can definitely tell that he is learning, too-- he likes to sound everything out. He loves his dinosaur egg and carries it with him all over the place. :)

Thanks for all you do!
