Mm week we talked about Manners and Mittens and Monkeys.
Our manners day was spent talking about all of the little nice words we should use, such as please, thank you, excuse me, etc. We made a cute little bee named "Miss Bee Polite" to help us remember to always use our manners. We learned a new manners song with sign language for the words, please, thank you, and share. We played a simple but very fun game that the kids just loved also involving Miss Bee Polite. I hope that you've noticed a difference in your home with just how polite your little ones can be!
Mittens and Monkeys was a fun day as well! We made a mitten and then read the book, "The Mitten", by Jan Brett. After, we colored and cut out all of the same animals that are in the story and retold the story on our own, sequencing the animals the same way we read it in the book. We then read "Naughty Little Monkeys" about what mischief 26 little monkeys get into while their parents are away. It's an A-Z adventure that is super funny and has the children laughing the whole way through. We then drew our own little monkey picture and the children got to decide what mischief heir monkey was going to get into. (To be fair, I did say their monkey could be caught doing something good as well, but most chose to have their little monkey be naughty.....)
This past week was spent talking about the letter N and Martin Luther King Jr. We learned a brief history of his life as well as how things were while he was alive. Basically a simple explanation of segregation. We talked about how although everyone is different, it is okay to be friends, and to share and be with people who may look different than we do. To finish off our friendship day, we made a Preschool friendship wreath which utilized the hands that you cut out. Thank you for taking the time to do that homework. I love that particular project because it is such a visual way to see that different, all together, can be great.
For N was talked about Noodles, noises and noses. What a fun time we had! We made noodle N's, and noodle necklaces. For noses, we were able to smell a variety of different scents and talked about what their favorite smells were. For noises we were able to find a really fun website that had hundreds of sounds. I had the kids stop and just listen and try to figure out what sound they were hearing. They loved guessing and for the most part were pretty much right on. Super fun day.
Looking forward to a fun rest of January-and February holds some of my favorite lessons and letters!
