We started the week off by learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We talked about his life and how there was no equality. In each class, the detail that seemed to stand out more than any other was the fact that African Americans could not share a drinking fountain with white people. We learned part of the "I have a dream" speech, and talked about how although we may look different on the outside, we are all the same on the inside. We then made a friendship wreath, made from the hands of each of our friends in preschool. I reminded the kids that even though they are each different, they are each special and important. In our Tuesday class, we took about 15 minutes and watched Barack Obama be sworn in as our new President. In our Wednesday class, we talked about how a person that has the same color of skin as Dr. King is now our President.
Oodles of Noodles: We made noodle necklaces of colored noodles and also decorated a capital letter "N" with noodles. We did our Nn paper and continued our conversation on friendship and sharing.
The Zoo phonics letter and animal this week is: N is for Nigel nightowl. Nnnn Nnnn Nnnn
Ask your child to show you the action that goes along with our letter!
