February-Catching up

We had such a fun and event filled February!
To catch up on the last couple of weeks:

Honesty-President's Day:
We talked about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. We learned that:
George Washington grew up on a farm and did not live in the White House because it was not built yet when he was our first president.
Abraham Lincoln grew up in a log cabin and did not go to school. He taught himself to read and was a very hard worker. He did get to live in the white house and he focused a lot of his energy on equality and freeing the slaves.
Both men were known for their Honesty, so we talked about what being honest means and the importance of always being honest-"I cannot tell a lie".

We also learned about Rainbows. Ask your children what makes a rainbow. They should be able to tell you that:
Rain + Sun= Rainbow
We also learned a song with sign language all about the colors of the rainbow. Your child can sign the words:
color, rainbow, red, orange, yellow, green, purple, blue, ocean and beautiful. We are working on others.

On our Quilting day-I hope you saw the beautiful paper quilts that your children worked on. They completed the patterns all on their own-just knowing that no two squares could be side by side or on top of one another. I thought they really did turn out wonderfully.

And to finish out the month we talked about Dental Health. We had a giant set of teeth we called Mr. Mouth. I showed the children how to brush using a giant toothbrush (They were a hit!) We also talked about flossing and the importance of going to the dentist. I sent them home with some homework! A teeth brushing chart spanning a two week period. When they fill it out, they will be able to pick something out of our prize basket!
