Last week we talked about the letter Vv. Our first day was all about Vegetables! And for our main activity, we tasted many different kinds of veggies and rated them either yes (with a smiley face) or no (with a frown). The kids tried broccoli, cauliflower, corn, peas, carrots, celery, edamame, sweet potato, and cucumber. I was so impressed that all of the kids followed the rule to at least try everything. Some thought they wouldn't like it and didn't like it and then were very surprised when indeed it wasn't too bad after all!
Our second Vv day was a field trip to Town & Country Gardens. We had a wonderful tour of the entire store and outside grounds learning much about plants, trees, seeds, tools, pesticides-everything to do with taking care of plans and flowers and trees. Thankfully both days were beautiful and we had a wonderful time learning and exploring.
This week was spent learning about the letter Ww. We first talked about wind and weather. We made weather wheels and I hope your kids are using them to be weather forecasters! I know the weather in Idaho is so unpredictable they could spin their wheel several times a day. We also decorated and made some super fun pin wheels. There wasn't any wind (shocker!!) on Monday, so hopefully they've been able to utilize the breeze that has been ever present since then.
Our second day we read a book by Eric Carle called "Walter the Baker". It is all about a baker who bakes the sweetest rolls for the Duke and Dutchess. One day his cat spills his milk and he has to use water in the rolls. The Duke and Dutchess were not pleased with the new sweet rolls and demanded that he leave the city immediately. Walter begged for the chance to stay and the Duke came up with one condition. He could stay if he could bake a new roll that was delicious and that the morning sun could shine through three times.
Walter worked all through the night and still could not make a roll that met all of the Duke's conditions. Finally, giving up, he threw a long piece of dough onto the ceiling. It fell into a bucket of water and just as Walter was going to give up, his son saw that it was in just the perfect shape. They baked it up, took it to the Duke and Dutchess-who were very pleased with the new roll. They called it a pretzel!
We took our own dough and each child made their own pretzel. A little cinnamon and sugar and it was probably the most favorite snack the kids have had all year!!
(Check back for a few photos of the kids in action!)
Next week is all about pirates!! And the letter Xx, because Xx marks the spot!

I just can't say it enough... thank you! Your ideas are wonderful, and Parker loves coming to preschool to learn about all the new things you are teaching him. He is quite proud of his pin wheel, but he just hasn't figured out that it can't stay outside with all of my spinning flowers and spin in the rain! Thanks again, Jill. You are one amazing woman!
